The Female Orgasm Explained

Most of us can recall that scene in the movie "When Harry Met Sally" and Meg Ryan is moaning and groaning like a porn-star having an alleged orgasm. In the movie she is obviously faking it. The movie endeavours to show that women have the ability to confuse or mislead their men into believing that they are actually having and orgasm.

Unfortunately for men, no matter how much they scream or moan, they cannot fake an orgasm -- as well, let's face it, a masculine orgasm is rather messy.

During the 1970's the sexual revolution enabled women the ability to lay claim to a right of pleasure in the bedroom; for the first time in public society, women were able to better understand their own bodies and discover what it actually is that enables/causes the orgasm. However, we are now 40 years since that revolution and for many men the onset and occurence of feminine orgasm remains a total mystery.

So my question is: If a woman is moaning wildly and screaming "yes, yes, yes" is she really having an orgasm? Without understanding the physiological changes in a woman's body at the time of orgasm, and not being the male partner sexually engaged at the time of the alleged orgasm, it is impossible to tell.

There are two points which are key to understanding if she is really having one or just faking it. Guys, whilst your are still inside of her; if you pay close attention to what she is doing to your manhood, you will be able to ascertain fiction (faking) from reality.

The female orgasm goes through four physiological stages, none of which you can "hear".

  1. Excitement
the labia swell and the vagina moistens
  2. Plateau
the uterus rises, the vagina expands and the labia change colour
  3. Orgasm
contractions in the uterus and the anus, and the vaginal muscles spasm uncontrollably
  4. Resolution
the uterus lowers and the vagina returns to normal.

Mutual orgasm is essential to procreation. Man and Woman are physically designed to have orgasm to ensure the longevity of the species, but it is also most pleasurable. Male sperm endeavour to swim their way to the ovum to enable fertilisation, but most all sperm lack the stamina to make the entire journey to the ovum unassisted. This is where the female orgasm becomes crucial.

Let's have a look at the key aspects of a sexual encounter (for the purposes of procreation)

  1. Male excitement
The swelling and stiffening of the penile tissues causing erection
  2. Female excitement
the labia swell and the vagina moistens
  3. Sexual intercourse
(hopefully you are already aware of this part, and I need not explain it)
  4. Female plateau
the uterus rises (in expectation of arriving sperm and to shorten the distance needed to travel to reach the awaiting ovum)
  5. Male plateau
the testicles rise and the glans begins to throb
  6. Orgasms (mutual is better), but let's go through both of them
    a) the male ejaculates a mixture of sperm and seminal fluids into the vagina
    b) contractions in the vaginal walls push sperm into the uterus
    c) contractions in the uterus suck the sperm into itself and push it up the fallopian tubes towards the awaiting ovum
  7. Resolution
in the female the uterus lowers and the vagina returns to normal and the man's penis softens and goes floppy.

Some women find the genital contractions of orgasm and uncontrollable spasm so pleasurable that they cry out, scream or moan. Others are driven into euphoria without a need for audible outbursts.

Gentlemen: In case you haven't realised by now, the penis is an extremely sensitive organ. If she's crying out like the movie, but there are no uncontrolled contractions and spasms about your manhood... she's faking.

Having knowledge about whether or not she is having an orgasm is not about catching her out. It is about truly knowing whether you have succeed in pleasing her. And if you are trying to have a family, perhaps you need to keep going to better improve the changes of your sperm reaching her ovum.

Have fun! :)

"Mutual orgasm is essential to procreation" - are you sure about this? I understand how male orgasm is essential but surely female orgasm is just a happy bonus?

@Perpepta

The orgasm is a necessary aspect of conception, but that doesn't mean that it is an earth shattering and highly euphoric outburst. That, I think, is the happy bonus.

@Conanedo

I don't know that her brain switches off, that may seem to occur for some women, but I wouldn't say that is the norm. Perhaps that is a more personal experience, but being a bloke I really wouldn't know. Maybe you can eloborate for us?
